10/11 Wimberly Crossing Dedication

The Wimberly family invites you to the TN Highway 411 dedication at Ocoee, TN. The section will be renamed Wimberly Crossing in honor of the Wimberly family and their contributions to Polk County.
PROCLAMATION OF THE GOVERNING BODY OF POLK COUNTY, TENNESSEE TO GIVE RECOGNITION
TO THE WIMBERLY FAMILY FOR THEIR ECONOMIC IMPACT AND COMMUNITY SERVICE TO POLK COUNTY
Whereas the County Legislative Body acknowledges that the Wimberly Family is a long time Originating Family in Polk County going back Five Generations, and;
Whereas the legislative body is aware that Wayne ”Hotdog” Wimberly is 89 years old and well-known community member of Polk County and that his Father, Mark Wimberly served as a Justice of the Peace for Polk County and was appointed as Director of the American Recovery Act for Polk County after the Great Depression, and;
Whereas the county commission is also aware that Wayne’s Grandfather, Major Ringgold Wimberly owned the property north of the Highway 64 bridge and in 1925, he helped organize Ocoee to become an Incorporated City which be became the only Mayor of serving from 1925-1929 during its incorporation. During that time, he gave the land for Highway 41l to the State and bought in the surveyors and contractors to build the road. It is believed that may be the first piece of paved road between Atlanta and Knoxville. He also ran for US
Congress in 1928.
