Free Fly-Fishing 101: Because Fish Don’t Catch Themselves
Ever wanted to look cool holding a fly rod while casually using words like “entomology” in conversation? This is your moment.
Fly Fishing 101 is a fun, laid-back introductory class designed to take you through the basics without making your brain feel like it just got tangled in 6X tippet. We’ll cover:
🧢 An overview of the essential gear and equipment (what it is, what it does, and what not to poke yourself with)
🐛 The use of entomology (yes, bug sampling!) to help you select the right fly — because fish are picky eaters
🎯 A casting lesson to help you look like you meant to do that
The best part? No fishing license is required for this 101 class. Zero. Nada. Zip. Just show up ready to learn.
All necessary equipment will be provided for students to use — rods, reels, and the confidence to fake expertise. Of course, if you already have your own gear and want to bring it along, feel free. We fully support show-and-tell.
Whether you’re brand new, mildly curious, or just here for the bug talk, this class will get you started on your fly-fishing journey with laughs, learning, and minimal line tangles (we hope).
Come see what all the fuss is about — and let’s get you casting like you’ve been doing it since 1923.
🎣 Free Fly-Fishing 102: Now We Add Water
So you survived Fly Fishing 101 without hooking yourself, a classmate, or a low-flying bird. Congratulations. You’re ready for the sequel.
Fly Fishing 102 continues the introduction and will consist of wading safety, reading water, and actual fishing — you know, the part where fish are theoretically involved.
Here’s what we’ll cover:
🥾 Wading Safety – How to walk in a river without performing an unplanned interpretive dance.
🌊 Reading Water – Learning where fish actually hang out (spoiler: not in the middle of chaos).
🎣 Fishing – Yes, real, honest-to-goodness fly fishing in moving water. You’ll finally put those casting skills to work.
A couple important details before you grab your waders:
✅ You must have completed the 101 class to participate in 102. We build on those fundamentals, and we promise it makes everything more fun.
📜 You must have a current Tennessee fishing license with trout stamp to go on the water. The fish insist on proper documentation.
Fly rods and flies will be provided for students to use, so you don’t have to own a thing to join. However, if you’ve already fallen in love with your own setup, feel free to bring it along.
Fly Fishing 102 is where things get real — steady footing, smart decisions, good drifts, and hopefully a bent rod or two.
Welcome to the next step in your fly-fishing adventure. The fish are waiting… probably judging… but definitely waiting

All ages welcome.
