9/12 Safe Haven Animal Rescue Program (SHARP) Board Meeting

Our board meeting is Tuesday 9/12/23 at 630pm. We are grateful to the Ocoee Coffee Joint for opening their place for our meetings every month. Public is invited.
We have guest Lisa Geren ,president of Community Foundation of Cleveland & Bradley County attending. She will be explaining how fundraising will work for a shelter if we move forward.
Second agenda item is our board voting on a proposal from Shelter Planners of America. “Shelter Planners of America” is known nationwide as the most experienced and skilled animal shelter consulting service you can obtain. We have a 2 step proposal we will be reviewing and voting on phase one. Phase one is the following:
1. The demographics of people and animal levels both current and projected, and a
recommendation of animal housing capacity.
2. Provide a Building Space Program with recommendations for the size building deemed
necessary for Administrative area, Animal Housing areas both indoors and outdoors, Medical Clinic area and Support areas. The Study will list each room and size needed in net SF and the
gross SF to include wall thickness and corridors.
3. The Study will provide recommendations for a new site in terms of location in service area,
visibility, access, suitability, parking, and site size.
4. “Best practice” recommendations for equipment, materials, finishes, HVAC systems, plumbing
and drainage systems in the new Shelter.
5. A discussion of the Shelter staff size, current and future.
6. A discussion of the Shelter operating budget, current and future.
7. An Opinion of Probable Cost for construction of the new shelter based on our real-world
experience with completed animal shelters. The estimate will include site work, soft costs and
proposed contingencies.
This first step will cost $7500 which is a big investment for our group. I don’t think one has ever been done for the county and it will be great data for future decisions.
We are being put on the county commissioner meeting agenda for 9/21. Thank you commissioner Davis. We plan to ask the commissioners if they would fund 50% of the study. The commissioners would be given the study to review when it is finished if they agree.
If your one of the many people we hear on FB asking about a shelter run by the county or a private shelter, please try to attend either meeting.
