1/1-15 Community Service Essay Contest

The Polk County News is teaming with Ouiser’s Porch (Facebook group) to sponsor a writing contest in January 2021 that focuses on the theme of “Community Service.” The theme of this essay contest coincides with the upcoming Presidential inauguration and helps to focus on the value of servant leadership, service to community and the value public service brings to our world. The contest is open to Polk County students in grades 5-8, and the following entails the rules for entering the contest.

•Essay can be no longer than 500 words and should be submitted in a MS Word document, using 12 point, Times Roman font.
•Essay must be the student’s original work.
•Essay must relate to the contest theme/writing prompts.
•Essay must be submitted between January 1-15, to thepolkcountynews@gmail.com *Entries received after January 15 will not be considered.
•Each essay will be read and judged based upon adherence to the theme, proper use of grammar, and coherent, effective presentation of idea/subject matter.
•Essay is open to Polk County students in grades 5-8, and name/grade/school/teacher must be included at the bottom of the essay.
•Essays will be judged by a professional panel made up of literary professionals and awards will be given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.
•Prizes are as follows: 1st place – $75; 2nd place – $50, and 3rd place – $25.
•Winning essays will be published in The Polk County News and on Ouiser’s Porch Facebook Group.
